Better Questions, Better Testimonials

“Tell us what you think!” gets generic, useless quotes. Specific, well-framed questions get testimonials that sell. The best questions surface the before-state, the moment of change, and the after-state — the same structure that powers high-converting case studies.

Take these prompts, send them to your customers, and collect the answers in one place. ShowTrust’s hosted submission form is built for exactly this workflow — and the resulting wall of love embeds anywhere on your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good testimonial question?

Specificity. “What problem were you trying to solve?” beats “Why do you like us?”. The best questions invite a story with a before, a turning point, and an after — and produce quotes that sound like real humans, not marketing copy.

How many questions should I send?

Five to seven is the sweet spot. Fewer and you don’t get enough story; more and customers abandon. Make 2–3 required and the rest optional.

Should I ask open or multiple-choice questions?

Open-ended for testimonials — the verbatim quote is the asset. Use multiple-choice for analytics (industry, role, company size), but never let multiple-choice replace the open-ended “tell us what changed” question.

Can I edit customer responses before publishing?

Light edits for typos and clarity are fine and expected. Substantive edits change meaning and erode authenticity — never rewrite the customer’s voice. Always show the customer the edit before publishing.

What if I get a negative response?

Don’t bury it — act on it. Negative responses are gold for product. Reply personally, route the issue, and follow up after you’ve fixed it. Customers who see their feedback turn into change often come back willing to provide a positive testimonial later.

Where do I send the questions?

Use a single, branded link — not a Google Form. ShowTrust’s hosted submission page asks your questions in a clean, mobile-friendly flow and routes responses to your wall of love. Free while in early access.
